Well, folks, it’s that time again. Selection Sunday is here. Come 6:00 tonight, our field of 68 is officially revealed. Let’s get ready for the day with one more look at the bracket and set up the day. Note: I will most likely not be around come 6:00 to post a final bracket at that time, so I am marking this as my final bracket.
Last Four In: Saint Mary’s, La Salle, Middle Tennessee, Massachusetts
First Four Out: Ole Miss, Kentucky, Alabama, Maryland
Next Two Out: Tennessee, Southern Miss
Massachusetts stays in the bracket after a pretty close outing against Temple, losing by nine. However, if Ole Miss wins today, Massachusetts is out.
Procedural bumps: Saint Mary’s/La Salle up from 12 to 11, Villanova down from 11 to 12.
Louisville went on a tear in the second half against Syracuse to win their second straight Big East crown, and with that, they now move into the overall No. 1 seed, with Gonzaga, Indiana and Kansas also on the top line. Kansas won the Big 12, defeating Kansas State, and with their 13 top 50 wins, are in good shape for a No. 1 seed, despite the loss at TCU.
We’ve also added Albany (America East), Memphis (Conference USA), Southern (SWAC), North Carolina A&T (MEAC), New Mexico (Mountain West), Akron (MAC), Northwestern State (Southland), Montana (Big Sky), Pacific (Big West), Oregon (Pac-12) and New Mexico State (WAC) as the newest automatic qualifiers.
Today, the final four automatic bids are handed out as North Carolina faces Miami for the ACC title (1:00, ESPN), Saint Louis battles VCU in the A-10 final (1:00, CBS), Florida goes against Ole Miss in the SEC (1:00, ABC) and Wisconsin squares off with Ohio State for the Big Ten crown (3:30, CBS). Reminder, the Selection Show is 6:00 on CBS.
Enjoy the day, unless you’re a fan of a bubble team, in which pray your team hears their name called tonight.
One more reminder about the Bracket Matrix, especially today on Selection Sunday. Happy Bracket Release Day, everyone! It’s been a great year and a joy sharing my bracket thoughts.
