Here are your start / sit fantasy recommendations for the February 4th NHL games.
Please note that you should always start your star players. This list is here to help you if you have two similar players and are debating on which one to start.
While a player may be a “sit” recommendation, he should still be put in your lineup over a player without a game tonight. Accumulating stats takes priority over no stats at all.
Different factors go into picking start / sit candidates including strength of opponent, scoring categories, history vs opponent and sometimes, gut feelings. Take that into consideration before making your final decision.
Players are listed in no particular order.
NOTE: These recommendations are posted before the first game of the day. Some changes may be made if any major changes occur to NHL lineups such as injuries, scratches, or especially, starting goalies, once new information is received. Check back often for any changes, especially for late games.
Forwards
| Start | Sit | |
| Derek Roy – DAL | Jussi Jokinen – CAR | |
| (Will return tonight after missing 5 games) | (Scoreless. Not putting up any numbers) | |
| Zack Kassian – VAN | Brenden Morrow – DAL | |
| (5 G, 6 points last 7 games) | (Still struggling. Just 2 SOG in 9 games) | |
| Jamie McGinn – COL | Devin Setoguchi – MIN | |
| (1 G, 5 points, 18 SOG in last 4 games) | (Seeing less ice time. Just 2 pts, 10 SOG in 8 gms) | |
| Sam Gagner – EDM | Jannik Hansen – VAN | |
| (At least 1 point in every game this season) | (Just 1 pt in last 7 gms. Doesn’t offer much else) | |
| Martin Hanzal – PHX | Kyle Brodziak – MIN | |
| (Points in 4 of 5 games this season) | (0 points last 7 games. Not doing much of anything) |
Defensemen
| Start | Sit | |
| Justin Faulk – CAR | Ryan Whitney – EDM | |
| (Numbers not there yet, but getting plenty of chances) | (Will be a healthy scratch tonight) | |
| Derek Morris – PHX | Stephane Robidas – DAL | |
| (Good numbers all around. Will help in most categories) | (Helps with hits & bk shots but not much else right now) | |
| Joni Pitkanen – CAR | Ryan Suter – MIN | |
| (3 points, 15 SOG last 5 games) | (Still struggling. Sit if you have a better option) | |
| Tom Gilbert – MIN | Kevin Bieksa – VAN | |
| (2 G, 6 points last 5 games) | (Solid secondary #’s, but still scoreless) | |
| Dan Hamhuis – VAN | Francois Beauchemin – ANA | |
| (Points in 5 of 8 games this season) | (Just 1 pt this season. Tough opponent) |
Goalies
| Start | Sit | |
| Kari Lehtonen – DAL | Cam Ward – CAR | |
| (Faces banged up opponent. Good #’s in COL) | (1-3, 4.50 GAA in 4 starts. Sit if you have other options) | |
| Semyon Varlamov – COL | Niklas Backstrom – MIN | |
| (3-0, 0.67 GAA, 1 SO at home this season) | (Winless, 3.97 GAA on the road this season) | |
| Roberto Luongo – VAN | Viktor Fasth – ANA | |
| (Starts again. 1 goal allowed in last 2 games) | (Gets the start against toughest opponent yet) | |
| James Reimer – TOR | Mike Smith – PHX | |
| (Has looked good lately. 2-1, 1.96 GAA last 3 gms) | (3rd start in 4 days. Fatigue could be an issue) |
Remember, use this list as a guideline if you are debating between a few players to round out your lineup. Just because a star player appears on the “sit” list doesn’t necessarily mean you should sit that player if your other options aren’t decidedly better.
If you have any questions about your fantasy lineup, don’t hesitate to ask.
Good Luck!
