I joined Dynasty Sports Empire (DSE) three years ago by hitting ‘I feel lucky’ on Google when I was looking for a dynasty fantasy baseball league. After reading through pages of copied and pasted rules that were looking somewhat disheveled I, eventually found an orphan list that sparked my interest. Up until then, I had always thought I was a reasonably decent redraft fantasy baseball player. Participating in various leagues ranging from home leagues up to NFBC high stakes leagues, but the one aspect I never ventured into was a keeper or dynasty leagues. I knew I wanted a challenge, and I knew a keeper league would be like kissing a second cousin, so I wanted to jump right in with both feet and went for a dynasty league. My original plan was to buy into three dynasty leagues – one start-up, one decently configured orphan, and one train-wreck of an orphan. That plan went right out the window immediately.
In my first season with DSE, I bought into 14 leagues – three start-ups and eleven orphans. The start-up leagues were all different – one head-to-head points, one head-to-head category, and one rotisserie. The eleven orphans were all in rough shape, but I was curious to see if I could do anything with them, and my approach with just about all of them was knock them down and go young.
In my second season with DSE, I expanded my roster of teams to 22 leagues – adding two start-ups and six more orphans. I become hooked on the idea of turning orphans into something competitive. This season is where I discovered the train-wreck of all train-wreck orphans. A team that, at first glance, I knew, would take me five years, minimum, to turn around and, maybe, just maybe, have a chance to make the playoffs. I also started working with the Administrator team at DSE, helping out wherever I could – updating roster credits, handling owner disputes, unlocking people to trade, monitor league activities, etc.
My third season with DSE, I, again, expanded my roster of teams, but this time with only one start-up league. This season I was also, officially, named the DSE Baseball commissioner, and that frightened me to my very core. The thought of managing 23 leagues of my own but also being responsible for overseeing 17 other leagues was a massive undertaking, but what I realized is I love baseball!
I love everything about baseball! The history, rivalry, comradery you feel in the stadiums, or even as you pass someone on the street who’s also wearing your favorite teams’ logo. And then we have the stadiums experience – walking through the gates, buying a program book, finding your seat, smelling the fresh-cut grass of the outfield, squinting as the sun beams down on you, filling out 6-5-4 double play, ordering a hot dog and a beer from the vendors running up and down the aisles. But my favorite part – standing and singing during the 7th inning stretch!
Entering my fourth season with DSE, I have already added one start-up and two orphans to put me at 26 leagues. I’m also entering my 2nd season as DSE Baseball Commissioner and have taken on the duties of Director of Editing for our revamped website. We have a fantastic team of content writers already, but we’re also always looking for new owners to join our community. DSE is not like any other fantasy league I’ve ever experienced. We have amazing members! If you are, even in the least bit, interested in learning more about DSE, register on our site, and ask for an invitation to our Slack channel.
