Too often, fantasy football “analysts” brag about what they got correct but rarely take accountability for what they got wrong. I want to change that trend when it comes to the advice I offer. Here are my Must Start/Sit players for the previous week and my analysis of those picks and performances. Using graphics, I will also evaluate my advice. The legend is as follows:
✅ – I got it right, and you did well with my information.
❌ – I got it wrong, and my prognostication hurt you.
↔️ – My advice neither helped nor hurt you; the player performance was middle of the road for their position.
⭕️ – Out or Other Situation that makes evaluation moot.
QB Must Start
❌Teddy Bridgewater, CAR – The stars were aligned for Bridgewater to have a career game, but it seems Teddy was wearing a blindfold on his way to a 15/23-176-1-1 stat line. The Panthers’ signal-caller finished outside the Top 15 for his position and was a huge fantasy disappointment.
QB Must Sit
✅Sam Darnold, NYJ – The Jets quarterback was not the worst starter in the league for the week as I suggested he would be, but he was still pretty bad. Darnold completed only 18 passes for 133 yards and finished outside the Top 20 at his position.
RB Must Start
⭕️Jonathan Taylor, IND – The Colts’ rookie seemingly disappeared sometime in the first quarter without an official word from the team. Indianapolis quarterback Philip Rivers revealed in a post-game interview that Taylor got injured. The remaining Colts running backs exceeded what I suggested was achievable. Most fantasy GMs started him (95% in MFL), so you were not alone in your disappointment.
⭕️Darrell Henderson, LAR – The Rams second-year back led the “committee” with 9 touches through the first 20 minutes before injuring his thigh and being ruled out of the game. Henderson still got 6.8 fantasy points in only a third of a game. I said he would exceed 12, and he was well on his way before the injury.
RB Must Sit
⭕️Mark Ingram, BAL – By game time, Ingram was ruled out due to an ankle injury. When I wrote my article last week, Baltimore was optimistic about his condition and fully expected the former Heisman Trophy winner to play.
❌Justin Jackson, LAC – The Chargers began to reutilize their running backs this week, and Jackson was the beneficiary as he gained 142 all-purpose yards and added 3 receptions. Jackson finished as a solid RB1 for the week.
WR Must Start
↔️Tyler Boyd, CIN – Boyd did not disappoint with 19.6 fantasy points (catching 6 or 7 targets for 67 yards and a touchdown) but was not the WR1 I expected him to be.
❌D.J. Moore, CAR – Before this week, Moore had double-digit fantasy points for three consecutive weeks. That streak was put to bed when the Panthers wideout caught just 2 passes for 55 yards.
✅Cooper Kupp, LAR – In a losing effort, Kupp was a solid fantasy play. Only two players were better in DSE scoring as the Rams receiver caught 11 passes for 110 yards. The Rams amazingly targeted Kupp 21 times as well.
WR Must Sit
↔️Jerry Jeudy, DEN – The Broncos rookie was Flex play worthy as he ended the week with 4 catches and 73 yards. Most of Jeudy’s fantasy points came during garbage time, but points are points.
⭕️Breshad Perriman, NYJ – Jets ruled Perriman out on Friday before the game when he failed to clear league concussion protocol.
↔️Anthony Miller, CHI – The Bears targeted Miller 11 times, and the Chicago receiver ended up with 8 catches for 73 yards. Miller was a surprisingly decent Flex start in DSE leagues.
TE Must Start
❌Mike Gesicki, MIA – The Rams held the Dolphins passing game to just 93 yards. Gesicki was on the receiving end of only 8 of those yards on one catch. The game flow went in the complete opposite direction than I had anticipated. “…Any given Sunday…”.
TE Must Sit
❌Jack Doyle, IND – The Colts veteran scored a touchdown on 2 catches for 18 yards. Sadly, those 9.8 fantasy points were good enough to be a TE1 for the week. It seems Doyle and Rivers are developing a rapport in the Red Zone.
