Now that the NHL season has completed the first month of games, I thought it would be interesting to see how the Average Draft Picks stack up against the NHL’s current top-scorers. In the below table, you will find the top 50 scoring players in the NHL – according to the DSE scoring system – and where they were drafted in start-up leagues this year.
As the season progresses, I will post an updated table that will highlight players who climb or fall in the rankings. Any player taken in the Free-Agent rounds of the start-up draft whose +/- differential is greater than or equal to 50 has been marked in BOLD, whereas any player whose +/- differential is less than or equal to -10 has been ITALICIZED.
Here is a link to the DSE start-up ADP list.

Takeaways:
Marc-Andre Fleury, VGK, G
Marc-Andre Fleury, as a 36-year-old veteran netminder, is having one of his best seasons to date! His SV% is at an all-time high of .935, his GAA is also at all-time best – low – of 1.81, and he’s already had four shutouts putting him on pace to possibly surpass his fantastic 2014-15 season with the Penguins. Any fantasy owner not making a run at the playoffs this season who has Fleury rosters should look to cash-in on his impressive 2020-21 season and use this chip as the start to an excellent rebuild!
Vincent Trocheck, CAR, C
Vincent Trocheck is having a great season. He’s currently on pace to break his all-time best in Goals and Points, as well as come very close to breaking his all-time best in Assists, which he hasn’t done since his age 24 seasons in Florida. Fantasy owners should be pleased with his overall performance this season, and, barring injury, Trocheck should continue to be among the top fantasy point scorers for the 2020-21 season.
Joe Pavelski, DAL, C/RW
Joe Pavelski, another 36-year-old veteran, is having himself a helluva season! Pavelski is currently on pace to break his all-time best in Goals and Points and come very close to breaking his all-time best in Assists. Pavelski is another sell-high candidate for fantasy owners looking to rebuild.
Jordan Staal, CAR, C
Providing the 32-year-old Jordan Staal can remain healthy for the remainder of the season, he is on pace to shatter his all-time best in Goals, Assists, and Points in a single season! Staal, who hasn’t played an 82-game slate since 2015-16, is no stranger to missing time in recent years, but this season seems to be a solid fixture in the Carolina lineup.
Ondrej Palat, TBL, LW
Ondrej Palat is on pace to outperform his all-time best in Goals, Assists, and Points in a single-season. Palat, who’s in his 29-year-old season, should be a permanent fixture in fantasy and dynasty lineups going forward, without question!
