Too often, fantasy football “analysts” brag about what they got correct but rarely take accountability for what they got wrong. I want to change that trend when it comes to the advice I offer. Here are my Must Start/Sit players for the previous week and my analysis of those picks and performances. Using graphics, I will also evaluate my advice. The legend is as follows:
✅ – I got it right, and you did well with my information.
❌ – I got it wrong, and my prognostication hurt you.
↔️ – My advice neither helped nor hurt you; the player performance was middle of the road for their position.
⭕️ – Out or Other Situation that makes evaluation moot.
QB Must Start
⭕️Jameis Winston, NOS – Winston appeared on many fantasy experts’ Must Start lists before Saints Head Coach Sean Payton announced that Taysom Hill would start.
QB Must Sit
❌Phillip Rivers, IND – Fantasy football is a challenging game to pin down sometimes. Statistically speaking, the Colts signal-caller had a slightly above average day, but his 24/36-288-3-1 stat line was good enough to place Rivers in the Top 10 quarterbacks for the week.
RB Must Start
⭕️D’Andre Swift, DET – Swift was ruled out of Sunday’s game on Friday when he failed to pass league concussion protocol standards.
↔️Damien Harris, NEP – As warned, Bill Belichick does not care about your fantasy football team. However, Harris managed to gain 43 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown (along with a reception for 11 yards), which made him a solid RB2 play on any fantasy team in Week 11. I am convinced that the Patriots look at matchups and go against the grain every week.
RB Must Sit
❌Melvin Gordon, DEN – Gordon more than doubled his monthly rushing average and added 2 touchdowns to finish the game with 20.40 fantasy points, good enough to finish in the Top 5 running backs (before Monday night’s game).
❌Ravens RBBC, BAL – Two out of three is not bad. Wrong. I got it right with Gus Edwards and Mark Ingram, who collectively rushed for 8 yards on 5 carries. I am not sure anyone saw the J.K. Dobbins feature role coming. The Ravens rookie rushed for 70 yards on 15 carries and scored a touchdown.
WR Must Start
✅Cooper Kupp. LAR – The Rams slot receiver took advantage of his matchup and caught 11 of his 13 targets for 145 yards. The 36.5 fantasy points (in DSE scoring) helped Kupp finish as a Top5 wide receiver for the week. Kupp is being targeted more than 8 times per game but has only scored 2 touchdowns this year.
✅Adam Thielen, MIN – The Minnesota native was unstoppable on Sunday, finishing with 2 touchdowns on 8 catches for 123 yards. Thielen finished as the 3rd best wide receiver for the week and made one of the most spectacular one-handed toe-drag swag TDs fans ever laid eyes upon.
↔️Amari Cooper, DAL – The failure of the Cowboys speedster to find the end zone regularly this year is perplexing (even on an inept offense). Cooper finished the game with 81 yards on 6 catches (on 7 targets), solid enough to finish as a WR2/3 for the week. Had Cooper scored (against a defense that gives up passing touchdowns like candy on Halloween), he could have been a Top 10 receiver.
WR Must Sit
✅N’Keal Harry, NEP – Harry was held to 5 catches and 41 yards as expected. The former first-round pick was worthy of a flex play with his 9.1 fantasy points. There were so many better options to play even in a deep 12-team DSE league setup.
✅KJ Hamler, DEN – The Dolphins’ pass defense was not up to par, but they still managed to limit Hamler to just 4 receptions on 35 yards. I correctly suggested the Broncos rookie would not get to 9 fantasy points in the Week 11 contest.
✅Jalen Reagor – In my write-up for Reagor this week, I highlighted the Cleveland cornerback Denzel Ward as the reason for the wide receiver’s inclusion in the Must Sit list. Ward ended up roaming a lot (and he defended 4 passes and had an interception) but had little effect on Reagor. The Eagles rookie managed to haul 4 of his 5 targets for 52 yards – barely worth a flex-start.
TE Must Start
✅Hunter Henry, LAC – The Chargers tight end failed to reach my predicted numbers (5-55-1) but finished the game with a stat line of 4-48-1. Henry’s 14.8 fantasy points were good enough to finish TE6 for the week (before the conclusion of Monday night’s game).
TE Must Sit
❌Dalton Schultz, DAL – For tight ends, the difference between a Must Sit and a Must Start is always a touchdown. Schultz caught just 4 passes for 25 yards, but one of those receptions resulted in a score. The touchdown made Schultz a Top 10 tight end for the week.
