Too often, fantasy football “analysts” brag about what they got correct but rarely take accountability for what they got wrong. I want to change that trend when it comes to the advice I offer. Here are my Must Start/Sit players for the previous week and my analysis of those picks and performances. Using graphics, I will also evaluate my advice. The legend is as follows:
✅ – I got it right, and you did well with my information.
❌ – I got it wrong, and my prognostication hurt you.
↔️ – My advice neither helped nor hurt you; the player performance was middle of the road for their position.
⭕️ – Out or Other Situation that makes evaluation moot.
QB Must Start
↔️Gardner Minshew, JAX – On paper, Minshew could not have asked for a better matchup. The previous two opponents had torched the Dolphins, and the Jags QB had two well-played games with 3 passing TDs in each contest. Minshew had a mediocre night of 30/42-275-0-1 and finished QB16 for the week in DSE scoring.
QB Must Sit
↔️Teddy Bridgewater, CAR – The Panther QB performed better than expected with a stat line of 22/28-235-1-0. Using DSE scoring, Bridgewater finished QB19 for the week with a respectable buy pedestrian 52.70 fantasy points.
RB Must Start
✅James Connor, PIT – Connor put to bed any questions about his health or supposed competition from Snell with a 18-109-1 rushing performance and catching all 4 of his passing targets for 40 yards. The Steelers RB was good enough to finish RB8 for the week.
↔️Devin Singletary, BUF. – The Bills RB had his best game of the year with 121 all-purpose yards and 4 receptions. Most would have considered Singletary a Flex question pre-game; his 16.10 fantasy points was good enough for being your 2nd RB rostered, but not quite being the difference maker I suggested.
RB Must Sit
✅Frank Gore, NYJ – Filling in for the injured Lev Bell, Gore finished the week with 15 rushes for 57 yards and a catch for 5 more yards. I suggested the Jets RB would fail to reach double-digit fantasy points and his 7.2 points left him at RB43 for the week.
✅Ronald Jones Jr., TBB – I will admit that RoJo did better than I expected, finishing the game with 73 combined yards and 2 receptions. The Tampa Bay RB’s 9.3 fantasy points were only good enough to have him finish 32nd at his position.
WR Must Start
⭕️DJ Chark, JAX – I encouraged a keen eye on game Actives/Inactives before the start of Thursday Night’s game. Sure enough, the Jacksonville star receiver was scratched just a few hours before kickoff.
✅Michael Gallup, DAL – The Cowboy wideout led all Dallas receivers in yardage and receptions and finished the game with a TD on 6 catches and 138 yards. Gallup’s 25.8 fantasy points helped him finish WR10 for week three. Not bad for a receiver considered by most fantasy GMs as the third best on his team.
❌Corey Davis, TEN – Davis was average at best and disappointing at worst. The lanky WR failed to step up in the absence of A.J. Brown and finished with 69 yards on 5 catches. The 11.9 fantasy points were enough to finish 42nd for his position and is a far cry from a Must Start.
WR Must Sit
❌Sammy Watkins, KCC – Funny thing about fantasy football metrics is that they are not always as predictive as we would like them to be. The Baltimore Defense was supposed to be dominant on paper but failed the eye test Monday night. Watkins led all Chiefs receivers in targets and caught 7 passes for 62 yards against a Ravens defense with numerous blown/missed coverages. His performance was worthy of a borderline WR/Flex start in DSE leagues.
✅Preston Williams, MIA – Even a touchdown could not help the Dolphins WR climb the leader boards. Williams 2 catches for 7 yards, and a TD left him finishing WR57 for the week.
❌Randall Cobb, HOU – The Texan WR finished the game with a line of 4-95-1, and that was surprisingly good enough to finish WR20 for week three. Cobb was a solid roster start this week, and I got that very wrong.
TE Must Start
❌Logan Thomas, WAS – I absolutely steered you wrong on this pick. Had I done due diligence and saw that the Browns had intended to shadow Thomas with LB Sione Takitaki, I would not have made this recommendation. Cleveland may be the worst team at covering TEs, but Takitaki is the best LB in the league when covering opposing TEs. Thomas finished the game with 4 catches for 41 yards.
TE Must Sit
✅Tyler Eifert, JAX – The Dolphins continued their dominance over opposing TEs by limiting Eifert to 11 yards on 2 catches.
