With the addition of 2 extra teams added to the playoffs, almost half of the league is still playing into the 2nd week in January. No one is complaining at all, as this weekend we have 6 stand-alone games, 9 straight hours of playoff football on Saturday and Sunday, followed by the best weekend in football, the Divisional Round.
It will be interesting to see how much of an advantage the Packers and Chiefs will get by being the only 2 teams to gain a bye week the first weekend. As of late, the bye week has essentially been a free pass into the Conference Championships. Will it be more of an advantage to KC and GB, given that if they win in the divisional round, they will have one less game of wear and tear on their bodies and a home game with a chance at the Super Bowl?
From a fantasy perspective, the playoffs give people another shot at clawing back all of those losses for those of you that drafted CMC, Saquon, and Michael Thomas.
Here are my playoff rankings throughout the playoffs:
QB:
- Josh Allen
- Patrick Mahomes
- Aaron Rodgers
- Lamar Jackson
- Tom Brady
- Ryan Tannehill
- Russell Wilson
- Mitchell Trubisky
- Baker Mayfield
- Ben Roethlisberger
- Philip Rivers
- Drew Brees
- Alex Smith
- Rams QB
Thoughts: Yes, I have Josh Allen ahead of Patrick Mahomes. I don’t think any QB on the planet is playing better than Josh Allen right now. In his last 5 games, Allen threw for 1516 yards, 15 TDs, and 2 INTs. Comparatively, Mahomes, during his last 5 games, had a line of 1705 yards, 11 TDs, 4 INTs. Mahomes has the edge in yards, but Allen has the edge in TDs, and that doesn’t include the 2 rushing TDs he also had during that stretch. Mahomes is great. The best in the business, but right now, I would take Allen. Also, Allen doesn’t have to face the Buffalo defense.
Side Note: I could have Brady a little higher here, but the Evans injury worries me a bit. That offense may look different if Evans isn’t out there.
RB:
- Alvin Kamara
- Derrick Henry
- Nick Chubb
- Jonathan Taylor
- Aaron Jones
- JK Dobbins
- David Montgomery
- Antonio Gibson
- Clyde Edwards-Helaire
- Ronald Jones
- Chris Carson
- Zack Moss
- Cam Akers
- James Conner
Thoughts: It’s really a toss-up for me at the top. Kamara is a target hog when Brees is at QB, and the last time he was on the field, he scored 6 TDs. Conversely, Derrick Henry just had a season where he rushed for 2,000 yards and should get league MVP votes. Both of these guys will get volume and may have to carry their teams if they want to go deep into the playoffs this season.
Side Note: JK Dobbins is a sneaky 1st round pick for re-drafts or dynasty startups next year. He has shown some great flashes down the stretch, and that, combined with the fact that Mark Ingram probably won’t be on the Ravens roster next season, leaves those who have Dobbins on a dynasty roster already feeling good about 2021.
WR:
- Davante Adams
- Stefon Diggs
- Tyreek Hill
- AJ Brown
- DK Metcalf
- Mike Evans
- Tyler Lockett
- Chris Godwin
- Allen Robinson
- Diontae Johnson
- Michael Thomas
- Cooper Kupp
- JuJu Smith-Schuster
- Antonio Brown
Thoughts: With the first 5 guys on this list, you can’t go wrong. Adams right now is the best WR in the league. He gets volume because there are no real other WR threats on the GB roster, and he has an all-time talent throwing the ball to him. Diggs has emerged as the star many thought he should have been with the Vikings. Allen looks his way all game and is going to put up amazing numbers in January.
Side Note: Michael Thomas has been one of the biggest disappointments in recent fantasy memory. A combination of injuries to him and Brees, the emergence of Taysom Hill (ugh), and the offense flowing mostly through Kamara has led to Thomas’ demise. Oh, and he fights with his teammates. That too.
TE:
- Travis Kelce
- Mark Andrews
- Logan Thomas
- Cole Kmet
- Eric Ebron
- Robert Tonyan
- Rob Gronkowski
- Austin Hooper
- Jared Cook
- Tyler Higbee
Thoughts: Kelce is the class of this position. Considering his stats this year, he could be up for offensive POTY (if the voters could look past QBs). He is dominant all over the field and gets a ton of opportunities to produce. Andrews is Jackson’s go-to target. Logan Thomas used to be a QB. One surprise over the last few weeks has been Cole Kmet. He and Trubisky have developed a good connection, and it will be interesting to see if that can continue during the playoffs.
Side Note: Robert Tonyan has been sneaky good, and Rodgers loves him. Considering the lack of weapons outside of Adams and the RBs, Tonyan is a sneaky good target for fantasy during the playoffs.
