Tournament Recap
Collin Morikawa won for the fourth time on the PGA Tour this week and moved into fourth in the world golf ranking. Morikawa continues to show why he is one of the best young players on the Tour. Currently first in strokes gained: Approach the Green; Morikawa is the best Iron player on Tour and will continue to dominate courses the benefit, great iron players.
Viktor Hovland finished T2 this weekend at the Concession. Hovland already has two wins on Tour at just twenty-three years of age and continues to be very consistent. He moves into second in the FedEx Cup rankings and seems due for another win. Hovland has an extremely bright future and will contend for major championships for many years to come.
Brooks Koepka showed up for a non-major once again this week, finishing T2. Koepka seems to be one of the best in the world when he applies himself. Koepka winning earlier this season and showing great form could be a sign that he will contend and likely win another major this season.
Branden Grace won in Puerto Rico this weekend, his second win on the PGA Tour. Grace has nine wins on the European Tour and has two top-fives in major championships. Grace is often forgotten in America due to his European Tour status, but he is a threat to win every week when he is playing well.
Three-time PGA Tour champion Jhonattan Vegas finished solo second in Puerto Rico. A veteran on Tour Vegas seems to contend several times a year in smaller or poor field events. This performance is likely another blimp performance that will not be repeated in better field events.
Prospect Watch
Davis Thompson
Finished T24 at the LSU Invitational, shooting 74-76-73. Poor performance for the first ranked amateur in the world. Every player goes through slumps; this kid has a very bright future. Look for him to bounce back in his next appearance.
Justin Suh
Finished T35 this week at the Puerto Rico open shooting 73-68-70-70. The former number one ranked amateur has dealt with wrist injuries since turning pro. The 23-year-old seems to be turning the page on the injury and may break out very soon.
Brandon Wu
He finished T7 at The Puerto Rico Open this weekend; his best PGA Tour finishes to date. Currently 4th in Korn Ferry points, Wu has shown promise as of late. The former Stanford standout held the lead during the third round this week and will likely earn a PGA Tour card this season.
Taylor Pendrith
T53 this week in Puerto Rico, currently second in Korn Ferry points. Pendrith pounds the ball off the tee and has shown consistent play in the past year. Pendrith is a late bloomer at age 29, but he will likely emerge on the PGA Tour next season.
Lee Hodges
Led after day one in Puerto Rico, finished T13. His best finish on the PGA Tour to date, Hodges has a win on the Korn Ferry Tour and is currently safely inside the 25 rankings at number five.
